Recruitment
People in Great Britain, be aware of recruitment. Posters are being put up left and right, trying to recruit more soldiers without using force. A rule is going around where those who are a male and meet the requirements in order to become a soldier, must become a soldier. Males as young as 18 were being recruited into the British Army. There are even woman being recruited as nurses, cooks, and drivers. Those who objected the war were imprisoned and punished.
The Defense of the Realm Act(D.O.R.A.)
Those working in coal mines, railroads, and shipyard, be aware of this act. The government can take of these working areas. Lloyd George, Minister of Munitions, is setting up state-run munitions factories. Those workers working in that area can be placed in these factories.
The government is making sure to stay on the good side of countries they trade with. Some trade routes have been blocked off so not all items are going to be available until further notice. |
Reduced Workforce
Businesses are starting to go out of business because of the reduced employees. Most of the employees have been or were being recruited into the British Army.
Rationing
There will be a fixed allowance for sugar, meat, butter, jam, and tea. This could be unfair for those with big families.
Also, British Summer Time is going to be introduced this summer. This is going to give those who are still working at home front more daylight working hours. Propaganda
Those who have soldiers in the war, just remember that soldiers' letters are being censored. "The Tribunal" had been shut down and lies are being made up about the German cruel acts. Posters are being put up to encourage those to join the British Army.
There has also been a recent film called "The Somme" was an attempt at using film to encourage those to go to war. Many has said that the graphic nature of actually seeing men die upset the viewers. "The Somme" is an upsetting film about the war. |
